Blog 3, Music and Experimentalism November 30, 2022 Jackson Kordos pierre schaeffer - "etude aux chemins de fer" - YouTube https://youtu.be/N9pOq8u6-bA This piece, "etude aux chemins de fer", is written by Pierre Schaeffer.   This is related to module 6. We see in this module that Schaeffer was the one who introduced tape music in the 1940s. In this piece you can hear the different pre-recorded sounds that he uses. You can hear whistles and bird-like sounds that then transition in to what sounds like a train. He uses these sounds to create a wide abstract song that is unlike the rest. These sounds are collaged together to create the whole piece. The meaning that this piece holds for me or other viewers was hard to grasp when I first started listening. There are so many random bits and pieces that all come together at once, making it hard to focus at first. After I listened a few more times I stopped trying to think and just let it flow. I started imagining the sou...

Jackson Kordos Concert Comparison on Sunday, November 6, 2022 Recital-Cart Fogg, Violin-  Heather MacPhail, Piano   The recital that I attended was at the performing arts center, this was on Sunday November 6. This was a violin recital that was performed by Cart Fogg, a very talented student here at Miami University. The two pictures shown above is the set list that Carter performed and the other is a picture of him up on stage getting ready to perform his piece.  Experience When attending this concert, I had no idea what my expectations would be. I had been to concerts before, but not a classical one like this. I was surprised, however, at how much I enjoyed listening to  Carter perform. Just him and his violin performing was astonishing to listen to and also watch him play at such a high level. When I walked into the room, the first thing that I noticed was high ceilings and the wooden walls that crept up the sides. It was a beautiful auditorium that caught my eye ...

Musical Meaning Blog_Jackson Kordos October 18, 2022 Topic: Music and Virtuosity 1) Chopin- Waltz in E minor, Op. Posth I think this piece is closely related to the module topic because Frédéric Chopin is a composer in the Romantic Era who is a virtuoso pianist. He is a very popular pianist from the 19 th century while this specific piece was written in 1830. This piece is said to have been composed prior to any of his later Waltzes that were published later in his lifetime and was composed before he left Poland for Vienna. It is a solo piece that was not given an opus number. When looking for a piece to write about, I chose this one because Chopin was one of the composers that we discussed in class, and I wanted to deep dive more into his work that he had. I also chose this piece because of the backstory. Waltz was not published until 20 years after his death but still caught the eyes of many.  This piece holds meaning to me because when I was little my uncle us...

Module 2 Blog Entry September 13, 2022 Topic: Music and Drama Jackson Kordos 1) Beethoven : Symphony No. 9, Daniel Barenboim Symphony No. 9 by Beethoven is considered by many to be his greatest piece. It is an ending of all of the work that he had compiled. This piece relates to our module topic in many ways. It was written between 1822-1824 in the romantic Baroque era. This piece was also written in a minor key which was picked up earlier in the baroque era. Beethoven was inspired to wrote this song off of the poem “Ode to Joy” by Friedrich Schiller.  By this time Beethoven was completely deaf but he still wanted to perform his work. The tone of this piece, being his final piece, is very emotional which directly relates to the drama aspect of this module. This song holds a deep meaning to me. Beethoven was my grandpas favorite artist and I have grown up listening to him ever since I was a baby. My grandpa was a big fan of symphony No. 9 and always had it playing when we would go o...
